Olori Adebisi
2021
Acrylic on canvas
61 x 75cm
It was International Women’s day earlier this month (March 2021), so I decided to complete this painting consisting of two of my favourite women; my mum (in red) and my grandma (holding the dollars), from my mums traditional wedding day.
Without my mum, I wouldn’t be in my dream career and would have given up a long time ago. My mum saw the greatness in me when I couldn’t see it in myself. She can be such a drama queen at times though lol like sis chill, me getting another ear piercing doesn’t mean I’m trying to make a covenant with satan .
Without my grandma I don’t think I’d be the traveller/lady of leisure/confident Adebisi that I am today. She was the Adebisi Bad B, a socialite, always looking fly with her shades and tattoos. I wish that the few times she visited us, that I sat with her and just talked about her life and her experiences. But the last time I saw her I was 14 and stupid all I cared about was going to the cinema with my friends and now she’s gone forever without me really getting to know her as deeply as I should have 🌹
Make sure you cherish the positive women around you whilst you can, you wouldn’t be where you are today without them.
